When Airbus paints a picture of the future of aviation, the company has a knack for inspiring dreams and visions of happier hours spent in cruise. When the A3XX was born, ideas were plentiful of all the amenities that might await the traveling public.
Well, Airbus is at it again. Having already unveiled its concept airplane last year, it now is imagining what passengers may experience on that futuristic air transport. As is so often the case, the aircraft makers wants to steal a page from the cruise ship industry, hoping travelers will relish the experience for itself, rather than being only focused on getting from point A to point B. Or, if they are, at least they will travel with a sense of purpose.
Who could resist the appeal of cruise ships? One can have luggage delivered to the cabin, play virtual golf, call home to read the kids a bed time story, dial into a WebEx, breathe in enriched air while enjoying panoramic views.
With that inspiration in mind, Airbus has released details of what it calls its Concept Cabin - "a flying experience inspired by nature." Airbus says that by 2050, passengers will be able to experience in-seat "mood lighting, aroma therapy and acupressure treatments.” Or for passengers want some social interaction, the center zone will offer a 'virtual pop up projection' that transforms from holographic gaming to 'virtual changing rooms for shoppers'.
